Celebrating the Sammamish Valley and Our Local Farms

Waking up at Hollywood Manor and looking out over the Sammamish Valley is a daily reminder of how lucky we are to be surrounded by such vibrant, living beauty. This land in the heart of Woodinville Wine Country, is more than just a picturesque backdrop. It’s a thriving, living landscape that feeds, inspires, and sustains our community.

This Earth Day, we’re taking a moment to appreciate the land around us and celebrate the people who care for it—our local farmers and the CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) programs that help bring the bounty of the valley straight to our tables.

Rooted in Community

The Sammamish Valley has deep agricultural roots. Long before it was known for tasting rooms and wine tours, this fertile land was home to the Sammamish people. A Coast Salish group, they lived, hunted, and fished primarily on the shores of Lake Sammamish and along the Sammamish River. Later, settlers and farmers arrived who cultivated everything from berries and greens to flowers and herbs. Today, that tradition continues through local farms committed to sustainability, soil health, and nourishing the community.

Supporting Local CSAs

One of the best ways to celebrate Earth Day all season long is by supporting a CSA. These programs offer a direct connection to local farms. CSAs offer weekly or biweekly shares of fresh produce, often harvested just hours before it reaches your doorstep. Many of these farms also practice organic or regenerative farming techniques, helping to protect the valley’s soil and waterways for future generations.

Some of Our Favorite Local Farms

Root Connection – One of the oldest CSAs in the area, focused on organic growing and strong community ties. In addition, they are now selling veggie, herb, and flower starts.

Tonnemaker Valley Farm – A generational family farm growing herbs, leafy salad mix, and a variety of vegetables. They also grow a large selection of u-pick flowers.

Sammamish Farms – Growing top quality vegetables and fruits with local delivery. Plus, members have exclusive access to the farm.

Another great way to support local agriculture is by visiting the Woodinville Farmers Market, which returns for the 2025 season on Saturday, May 3. Held weekly through the summer and early fall, the market is a vibrant gathering place where many Sammamish Valley CSA farms showcase their seasonal produce, flowers, and artisan goods. It’s a great spot to meet your growers face-to-face, discover what’s in season, and get a deeper sense of the community that keeps local farming thriving. Plus, it’s just a short drive (or bike ride!) from Hollywood Manor—making it an easy and inspiring Saturday outing.

A Walk Worth Taking

From the Manor, the Sammamish River Trail is just a five-minute walk away—offering not only scenic views and gentle strolls, but also a reminder of the interconnectedness between the natural world and the life we lead here. Whether you’re biking, walking, or simply pausing to admire the view, it’s a great place to reflect on the beauty and balance of the valley we call home.

Doing Our Part

At Hollywood Manor, we believe small actions add up. We compost, support local businesses, and incorporate eco-conscious choices into how we host guests and maintain our space. Celebrating Earth Day is about recognizing our role in the ecosystem and doing what we can to preserve the magic of this place—not just for today, but for generations to come.

Here’s to open skies, healthy soil, and a valley that continues to nourish and inspire. Happy Earth Day from all of us at Hollywood Manor!
