Why Pollinators Matter
Pollinators—bees, butterflies, birds, bats, beetles, and more—are the unsung heroes of our food system. They are responsible for pollinating over 75% of the world’s flowering plants and about one out of every three bites of food we eat. This includes many of our favorite fruits, vegetables, and nuts, as well as crops vital to the local economy.
Beyond food, pollinators play a crucial role in:
- Supporting biodiversity and healthy ecosystems
- Preventing soil erosion
- Increasing carbon sequestration
- Providing habitat for other wildlife

Unfortunately, pollinator populations are declining due to habitat loss, pesticide use, and disease. Their decline threatens not only our farms but the balance of our entire ecosystem.

Hollywood Manor’s Commitment to Pollinators
At Hollywood Manor, we recognize the essential role pollinators play in sustainable agriculture and a healthy environment. That’s why we’re taking steps to protect and support them:
- Planting Pollinator-Friendly Landscaping: We are adding native and pollinator-attractive plants to our grounds, creating habitat and forage for bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects.
- Avoiding Harmful Chemicals: We do not use pesticides or weed-killers known to harm pollinators, ensuring our property is a safe haven for these vital creatures.
- Community Education: By sharing knowledge and supporting local events like Pollinator Fest, we hope to inspire others to take action in their own gardens and communities.
Join the Movement
We invite our residents, neighbors, and friends to join us at the Sammamish Valley Pollinator Fest at 21 Acres on May 31. It’s a perfect opportunity to learn, connect, and take simple steps that make a big impact. Together, we can ensure that pollinators—and the food and beauty they bring—continue to thrive in our valley and beyond.
Let’s celebrate and protect the pollinators that sustain us all!
